Founders' Associate - Operations, Finance & HR
Accounting & Finance, People & HR, Operations
Berlin, Germany
WHO WE ARE
WeatherPromise is a Series A startup backed by top US investors Maveron, Lerer Hippeau, and 1Sharpe among others. We guarantee good weather for travellers. If the weather doesn't deliver, customers get their money back — automatically.
This isn't conceptual. We're embedded in the checkout flows of major travel partners, making real-time, destination-level decisions about weather risk for millions of customers. At the same time, this is an emergent product category addressing increasing weather risk and overtourism in an innovative way.
We're a team across Europe and the US with an office in Berlin: repeat founders, engineers, data scientists, climate scientists, product managers, and designers from places like Meta, Klarna, HelloFresh, Snapchat, TravelPerk, and Miro, alongside researchers from leading academic institutions.
THE ROLE
This is a founder's associate role with real ownership from day one. You'll work directly with the founders, our COO, and other senior leaders, and take on the work that keeps a fast-growing, multi-entity company running — and the projects that move it forward.
The most interesting part is the special projects. One month you might help set up the insurance structure for a new jurisdiction; the next, implement a new HR tool or run our annual performance and development review. These are real problems with no template, and you'll own them end to end — from working out what needs to happen to getting it done.
Underneath that sits the operating base: finance and HR administration. On finance you'll handle the day-to-day — invoicing, payments, expenses, payroll inputs — and act as our point of contact with external accountants and tax advisors across our German and US entities. On HR you'll own administration end to end: contracts, onboarding and offboarding, payroll coordination, and benefits. It's hands-on and detail-heavy, and doing it well is what earns the access and the bigger projects.
We invest heavily in AI across the company and we're building a very modern finance stack. We expect this role to make heavy use of AI — automating routine work, speeding up the manual parts of finance, HR, and admin, and helping us design processes that are AI-first from the start.
It suits someone with a consulting or professional-services background who wants to see how a company actually works from the inside, is comfortable with ambiguity, and would rather fix a messy process than wait for someone else to define it. Do it well and the role grows with the company — into a broader operations, finance, or people leadership mandate as we scale.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Own special projects end to end — e.g. helping set up the insurance structure for a new jurisdiction, implementing a new HR tool, or running the annual performance and development review
• Work directly with the founders and COO on whatever needs pushing forward that week — research, analysis, and one-off operational problems
• Use AI to automate routine work and speed up finance, HR, and admin — and help build processes that are AI-first
• Run day-to-day finance admin: invoicing, payments, expense processing, and bookkeeping inputs
• Act as our point of contact with external accountants and tax advisors across our German and US entities
• Own HR administration: draft and track employment contracts, manage onboarding, and liaise with our payroll providers
• Coordinate recruiting and hiring across the US and Europe, including visa and relocation paperwork where needed
• Negotiate with vendors, supply contracts, and procurement
• Organise team events, offsites, and travel
WHAT YOU BRING
Must-haves
• 3–4 years in consulting, professional services, or a comparable analytical, fast-paced environment
• Fluent German and English, written and spoken
• Based in Berlin and able to work from our office on a hybrid basis
• Strong with Excel / Google Sheets and quick to learn new tools
• Highly organised and precise — you catch the detail others miss
• Comfortable that the role is hands-on as well as strategic
• Discretion and good judgement with confidential financial and personal data
Good signs
• Exposure to finance, HR, or operations work, ideally at a startup
• You already use AI tools in your daily work and look for ways to automate what you can
• You're comfortable owning a process from messy to clean and iterating
• You like breadth — you'd rather move ten things along at the same time than specialise in one over months
• You're interested in working in a low-hierarchy start-up environment
WHY THIS ROLE
• Real ownership and direct access to the founders and COO from day one
• Meaty special projects with no template — strategy and execution, not just admin
• A front-row seat to how a Series A company scales across the US and Europe
• Build with AI in a company that's investing heavily in it and a modern finance stack
• A clear path to grow into a broader operations, finance, or people leadership role as we scale
