Position Summary:

The Leave of Absence Specialist will join the Total Rewards Team at Trupanion, which is a branch of People Operations overseeing benefits, compensation, equity, leave, and HRIS. This position will report to the Total Rewards Manager and help us achieve our philosophy of providing a comprehensive and choice-based benefits package that will support and enhance the physical, financial, and emotional wellbeing of our diverse team members and their family. The role will primarily focus on day to day administration of our US and Canadian leave, the Leave of Absence Specialist may assist with other Ad Hoc Benefits projects as well.

This position is open to candidates in the Seattle area. You will have a hybrid remote/in-office schedule where you will work from our casual, pet-friendly office at least 3 days a week.

What you will do:

  • Functions as the single point of contact for coordinating and communicating the organization's leave of absence policy to relevant team members, leaders, and payroll partners
  • Develop and implement strategies to better manage leaves of absence and leave monitoring
  • Develop and conduct training sessions about leave of absence practices for people leaders
  • Build process documentation for key benefit activities and continuously review to ensure it remains up to date
  • Replies to inquiries regarding leave of absence accurately and timely
  • Aids team members and supervisors in completing required leave of absence paperwork and assists with escalations with Reliance Matrix when needed
  • Identifies areas of improvement in organizational leave of absence policy and prepares recommendations to human resources management teams.
  • Works with team members and supervisors to understand return to work policy and procedures
  • Tracks past, current and future leave of absences in appropriate system or software
  • Ensures that leave of absences are compliant with industry standards and relevant laws.
  • Calculates and submits all PFML payments to payroll on a bi-monthly basis
  • Assists with ad hoc team-wide benefits initiatives

Experience you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administrations, Human Resource Management or applicable field is required or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 - 3 years of progressive experience in People Operations, preferably with an emphasis on leave of absence administration.

  • Experience administering benefits programs in both the U.S. and Canada.
  • Experience working with the Workday platform.
  • Experience working with Reliance Matrix or other 3rd party benefits administrators.
  • An interest in putting people first, so that Trupanion can continue to be seen as an excellent place to work.
  • A willingness and ability to improve processes.
  • Proven expertise in building relationships with internal stakeholders

Compensation:

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $31.25 -$36.06 on a full-time schedule.
  • Along with base salary, Trupanion employees may be eligible for monthly bonuses.
  • We want all employees to be invested in Trupanion’s success, so we grant Restricted Stock Units to all new team members. Our new hire grants vest over 4 years.
