Free Agency is on a mission to empower people to reach the highest levels of their career potential. We work with talent to break the information and process asymmetries holding them back from doing more, making more, and being more. We’ve raised over $15M from world-class investors like Maveron, Resolute Ventures, Bloomberg Beta, Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman’s Thirty Five Ventures, Palm Tree Crew, and more.

Free Agency brings Hollywood-style career management to knowledge workers, starting with the tech industry. We provide concierge services and digital products to help people find incredible jobs, make more money, and become high-performing leaders. Unlike solutions in recruiting, we’re entirely paid by the talent we work with, which enables us to provide them with dedicated Talent Agents to manage “the business end” of their career. Talent success becomes our success.

To date, we’ve helped hundreds of professionals negotiate over $340 million in offers, and work with talent building the cutting-edge future in the startup and tech industry.

About the job:

We are currently seeking an audio assistant to serve and learn from our audio engineer who specializes in live sound engineering and field recording. The ideal candidate will be prepared to begin work immediately, as the first project—a 4-hour session—is scheduled for this Tuesday (September 24th). This initial engagement may lead to further opportunities, depending on performance.

Though post-production skills are welcome, we primarily intend to onboard remote audio editors for those tasks. This role is focused on capturing high-quality audio in real-time during events. You’ll be working on a variety of projects, from recording live talks at networking events to video podcasts.

Free Agency is making serious investments in its media arm. With a podcast studio in-house, equipment on-hand, and a team commitment to regularly shoot & release new content, this role has the potential to see steady, reliable work. In addition, our team holds very high standards for our media output, so you’ll be tasked with capturing the best possible live audio to add to your portfolio.

You’ll help:

  • Operate and manage audio equipment during live recordings to ensure clear sound capture, including carefully mounting lavalier mics & prepping equipment overall.
  • Ensure all live audio meets our high standards for clarity and quality, even in noisy environments.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience using lavalier mics, professional audio kits, and microphones like the RE20 and SM7B in a variety of contexts.
  • Some comfort and confidence in capturing high-quality audio within noisy non-production environments (e.g., recording an interview set in a busy restaurant).
  • Ability to work quickly and meet tight deadlines, as our team is highly responsive and fast-paced; urgency is the name of the game.
  • Availability to start immediately.

Compensation:

$16 to $18 per hour, depending on experience.

Live event shift from 5pm to 9pm on Tuesday evenings.

Why Free Agency matters:

Job search and career progression are broken. Candidates haphazardly apply to jobs, meet only a few companies, settle during offer negotiation, and generally don’t optimize the process of moving along in their careers. As a result, Free Agency believes that everyone is undercompensated.

That doesn’t just have to do with the money we make, but also the teams we’re a part of, the type of work we get to do, and the alignment to mission along the way. All of this has an impact on our own satisfaction, health, and financial wellness, but we don’t give it the attention it deserves.

By aligning incentives with individual talent, Free Agency is enabled to build first-of-their-kind products & services and define a new category of career management.
