About the role

Job Description

Chariot is a charitable payments company that’s revolutionizing the philanthropic financial system. We believe more money needs to move to nonprofits faster so we are building tools that activate more philanthropic dollars and transform nonprofit operations to be more efficient. We’re looking for top talent to join our mission driven team in changing the financial landscape of philanthropy.

We are currently backed by Y Combinator, Spark Capital, SV Angel, and top-tier angel investors like Mike Massaro, Adam Grant, and Angela Duckworth. Our team is made up of passionate and talented individuals with prior work experience at Blackrock, Bain, Goldman Sachs, Palantir, and Forage (YC21).

We are entering an exciting phase of growth and expanding our team to bring tens of thousands of nonprofits onboard while expanding our product capabilities to solve even deeper problems for the nonprofit sector.

Legal

  • Own all commercial contracts - negotiating and managing agreements with nonprofits, fundraising platforms, DAF sponsors, and banking partners

  • Advise cross-functional teams on legal risk as we expand product capabilities and enter new markets

  • Build out legal operations infrastructure (templates, playbooks, outside counsel relationships)

Compliance & Risk

  • Lead Chariot's compliance program — policies, controls, and procedures that scale with the business

  • Own BSA/AML, KYC/KYB, and payments regulatory frameworks across our banking and platform partnerships

  • Respond to regulatory inquiries and audits; serve as primary point of contact with banking partners and regulators

  • Monitor the evolving fintech/payments regulatory landscape and keep leadership ahead of it

Strategic

  • Sit at the leadership table - this role shapes company decisions, not just reviews them

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to ensure new features ship compliantly without slowing velocity

👤 About You

  • 6+ years in compliance/law, ideally with fintech exposure

  • J.D.

  • Detail oriented with excellent written/verbal communication skills

  • Proactive with strong people skills and ability to influence internal and external stakeholders

  • Comfortable working collaboratively in a fast-moving, cross-functional team environment

  • Team player with an ownership mindset and an eagerness to take on more work whenever possible

  • Deep understanding of financial services, specifically in B2B financial
services, banking, and/or digital asset management.

  • Ability to respond to regulatory inquiries and audits, including drafting, reviewing, implementing, and managing policies and procedures.

📚 What you’ll get from Chariot

At Chariot, we are building modern, end-to-end payment infrastructure making donors' lives easier, and nonprofits' lives better. $600B gets donated to charity each year in the US and the existing technology/infrastructure was still built for our grandparents generation. Chariot is here to change that.

  • Traction. Annualizing over $1.8B in payment volume through Chariot. Tens of thousands of nonprofits already onboarded including American Cancer Society, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and University of Pennsylvania.

  • Impact: That money services nonprofits working in homelessness, health, education, the environment, and so much more.

  • Market opportunity: Billion dollar revenue opportunity. Fintech company operating in an untapped $600B market

  • The Team. >30% of Charioteers are former founders. NYC office, in-person Monday through Thursday, WFH Friday. The public handbook shows how we operate.

❤️ Employee Benefits

  • 🏥 Healthcare: Comprehensive healthcare, including options that are 100% covered by Chariot for you

  • 🌴 Time-Off: 18 days PTO and 13 holidays - take the time off that you want and need to relax and recharge

  • 👶 Parental Leave: 100% paid parental leave, including 12 weeks for primary caregivers

  • 🍽️ Team Lunches: Weekly team lunches

  • 🌯 Dinner on Chariot: Free dinner every day at office past 8pm

  • 🎉 Team Events: Monthly team building events

  • 💎 Employee-friendly equity: 2 year exercise window and double-trigger acceleration

  • 😎 Company Retreats: To get away - we all convene 2-3x / year company retreats

  • 🎁 Matching Gifts: Matching DAFs and daily charitable giving through GoodToday
