Job Summary

The Senior Sustainability Specialist helps ensure execution of our ESG strategy while meeting the philanthropic objectives for the business, visibly leading the company’s community relations efforts through: coordination and execution of external volunteer and community facing events; internal engagement, fundraising and associate awareness campaigns; management of our non-profit partnerships; owner and administrator of our associate giving programs (matching gifts, dollars for doers, Board matching, etc.); providing recommendations and stewardship over our charitable contributions; and independently representing the sustainability function through cross-departmental initiatives.

  • Grant Recommendation and Stewardship - Responsible for contributing to, managing and executing upon the contributions, strategy for all company charitable investments. This includes the day-to-day relationship management with non-profit organizations, development and execution of engagement plans that include triangulation of business strategy, contributions guidelines/strategy and engagement of associates. Research and own data collection and reporting of investment impact, volunteer hours, and associate engagement.
  • Associate Engagement and Volunteerism - Lead internal associate’s engagement committees and councils – defining agendas, relevant content and consistency in scheduling, including appropriate follow up. Volunteer at and coordinate community events. Own and execute associate community engagement programs including Your Cause (user experience, measurement and reporting) and Annual Signature Giving campaigns. Develop and execute internal volunteer strategies and leads coordination of associate volunteer events.
  • Communications - Partner closely with internal and external Communications teams to provide content direction and details for all promotions related to philanthropic campaigns and investments (press releases, email, social web, etc.). Advise on key themes and content with extreme attention to detail to ensure messaging aligns with the mission. Experience in drafting and proofreading business communications for philanthropy initiatives, including written communications and verbal presentation. Lead presentations and facilitate all meetings in a professional and articulate manner.
  • Project Management - Coordinate, plan and execute all facets of community relations initiatives including fundraising and awareness campaigns, volunteerism and community events. Organize and mobilize information from multiple sources, devising actionable plans that meet expectations of on-time, goal-oriented and business relevant objectives. Strong event planning and coordination. Utilize knowledge of Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams to execute and drive efficiencies.
  • Relationship Building - Strong collaboration skills. Build and maintains positive relationships and identifies business connections both internally and externally to maximize Bread Financials purpose-driven priorities and return on investments. Effectively communicate with, and manage up to Bread Financial leadership to provide updates on non-profit partnerships, drive campaign performance and successfully execute on volunteer initiatives, as well as community events. Work cross-functionally with DEIB office, BRGs, People & Culture, Marketing, Communications, etc.

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements:

  • Normal office environment.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Must be able to lift boxes and event displays (up to 50 lbs.).
  • This position is hybrid with an onsite schedule of 1-3 days per week. In-office requirements are subject to change based on business needs. This position is currently available to candidates that reside within 60 miles of Columbus, OH.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in managing campaigns, event planning and coordination, business / corporate communications, fundraising, and/or database management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in communications, business, or public affairs.

Typical Starting Range:

$87,900.00 - $159,200.00

Full Salary Range for position:

California: $101,000.00 - $198,900.00

Colorado: $87,900.00 - $167,100.00

New York: $96,600.00 - $198,900.00

Washington: $92,200.00 - $183,000.00

The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.

Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan.

All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time (“PSST”) upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.

Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
